My 1y/o male Maltese has a area on his front led started out as a pink spot and is now black and has started to bleed periodically. He licks it at times but not every day. Our vet doesn't seem to know what is going on.

Please help!

Vet Suggestion Black Spot on Dog Leg

Hello,

I’m afraid I can’t give you much of an idea of what is going on with your dog based on a description alone. If your dog were my patient and the diagnosis wasn’t immediately obvious after a physical exam, I would want to run a skin scraping to look for mites, skin cytology to rule out infections, and perhaps a fungal culture for ringworm. If those tests didn’t reveal the cause of your dog’s symptoms, a skin biopsy might be necessary.

If you’re not happy with the way your veterinarian is addressing the situation, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to get a second opinion.

Good luck,

Jennifer Coates, DVM
